This means we could potentially close on the condo as early as next Friday.

Yay! Does that mean you might be able to get a second kitty soon?

Possibly! We'll probably wait a while after we move before getting a second cat, though...wanna give Sophie time to get used to the new environment, for one thing. And for another, there's a good chance we'll probably go home for a week or two in the summer, and should probably wait until after that to even really think about getting another kitty.

Makes total sense. My friend just moved half way across the country and brought her cat with her and they're waiting to get another one until she's used to the new house. Don't wanna change too much too quickly.

Exactly. I know when my friend moved her cat spent the first 2 days mostly hiding in the closet because it was a whole new place.

My newest cat Drake (got him 3 weeks ago) hid under the bed for 3 days when he first came home- and he won't go in the basement. He's a 8 month old all black cat. He was a stray until he was 6 months old. I got him from a rescue group my friend volunteers with.

AW! I love kitties. Can't wait to get another one...think we're probably going to adopt a kitten from a shelter (or rescue group situation, whatever we can find around here, I'm sure there's plenty) when we're ready for it.

Oh, I would totally have more if I had the space. All of mine have been from rescue groups or the shelter. Always adoption. And bringing in new cats is so fun. You get to notice they are all SOO different.

I have 2- my mom has 1. Currently I am jobless and hence living back at home but once I find a new job I'll be saving up money to move out and it'll just be me and my 2 cats. My little boy though treats my mother's cat like his little sister. It's really cute. He even gives her baths.

We got Sophie from a friend, because my friend's cat oh-so-conveniently had kittens right before I got married, so Sophie was essentially our wedding present. But any more cats we get from now on will definitely be adoptions, since now none of our friends around here have cats, and the friend we got Sophie from doesn't have her kitties anymore, I don't think (they got evicted and had to move someplace that didn't allow pets, which is super shitty. But I think all their kitties went to friends.)

Aww, that's adorable. I can't wait to see how Soph reacts to having another cat around. Hope she gets along with them...she hasn't been around other cats at all since we got her, so she's used to being the only one.

Aww, that's a great wedding gift! To be honest I would be so, so upset if I had to give up my cats. My kitties are family. I would hate to leave them behind but at least I know I could have my mother take care of them. I would know they were taken care of. And if they needed just a temporary home my friend who works for the rescue center could also watch them- she has 10 of her own and 2 that she's watching for her uncle. She actually wants more. (Crazy cat lady she is. lol)

My oldest, Ana, was not happy when the other two came in. She was only the 'only' cat for about 2 months (my mom's cat had died) so she got used to it. My mom's cat walked in like she owned the place so it only took her a couple of days to get used to her. And my new one Drake- she still isn't close to him but that's just because he's shy and won't get too close to Ana. But she doesn't hate him and she's slowly getting used to him being there. They tend to adjust- some quicker than others.

Yeah, it really was a great gift. And, because Sophie wasn't actually old enough to leave her mother when we moved, our friend actually brought her out to us, so we got a bonus visit from our friend on top of getting awesome cat of cute.

Wow, your friend does indeed have a lot of cats.

I hope Sophie adjusts quickly. Mainly because I'd love to see her snuggling with another kitty. XD

Cats are so, so cute when you sleep together or play together. It's the best part about having 2 cats or more.

I had a friend when I was a kid whose family had something like 20 cats. But they lived on a farm, and most of the cats were outdoor cats. So it's like they don't really count towards the "crazy cat person" quota.

Exactly! My one friend lives in the middle of nowhere and all of her cats go outdoors so her 14 aren't so bad.

I imagine my friend with 12 in her apartment and I'm like, "How do you move?" Especially since her one cat Beast is 21 pounds and when he's on his back legs his head hits her hips. He's HUGE. Like a baby panther.

Yeah, packing sucks. Our apartment is not actually big enough for all the boxes of STUFF we're going to have (I mean, all our crap fits in NOW, but once it's in boxes and off all the furniture, the boxes are, quite possibly, going to take up the ENTIRE floor space of our apartment). Thank goodness the condo is so much bigger. :)

And after this, we're totally not moving again for AT LEAST another 5-10 years if we can help it. (Well. Unless I get a postdoc position in London after I get my PhD. In which case, we're going to GTFO of America as fast as humanly possible XD )
