Suppose I should actually update once in a while, huh?

This one's gonna be short, though. Just wanted to talk about the fact that I had a job interview yesterday, and I feel like it went really well. Got an email today from the prof I interviewed with, saying that it'll be close to 2 weeks before I hear one way or the other (because of hiring regs at the university), but that he enjoyed talking with me yesterday and that I'm high on his list of candidates.

So.

FINGERS ARE CROSSED.

(Because goddamn would I love to have health insurance again. And the ability to occasionally throw money at things I like and want to support. Like AO3. And Kiva.)

(Also, would love to be able to afford to go see West Side Story when it's in town in June. WANT.)
uberniftacular: (Peanuts: Charlie Brown Christmas)
Merry Christmas, happy [insert winter holiday of your choice here], or just happy Tuesday, everyone!

I'm watching Charlie Brown Christmas while my dinner cooks. Best I can do this year, since I didn't get to go home to see my family.

But we opened presents via a Skype call this morning so it was sort of like we were together still, which was LOVELY. Technology is awesome.

Anybody care to hear what we got? No? Oh well, I'm going to list it anyway. XD
Loot! )

Parents are bringing little sister back into town tomorrow, and they're treating us to tickets to the Charlie Brown exhibit at MSI, which looks like it's going to be AWESOME.

(Also, they're bringing leftover cookies, pumpkin bread, and homemade baklava. SCORE.)

So, it's been a pretty good Christmas, even if I didn't get to go home.

Recent accomplishments, since it's been a long fucking time since I updated this thing:

- Hosted Thanksgiving at my house. Only 6 people, not too bad.
- Job interview yesterday went fairly well, yay!
- Kicked ASS during Hufflepuff Knight Week at [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome.
- Made an assload of Harry Potter icons (here if you're interested)
- Finished making Tashmas gift! Two whole weeks early! (Still need to code the post and maybe make a banner. Maybe.)
- Also made an even bigger assload of Avengers icons. (Check it out.)
- Signed up for [community profile] fandom_stocking. Because apparently I really like making shit.

Things I have not accomplished recently:
- Getting much of anything done on my Clint/Coulson fic I'm supposed to be working on. Oh well.
- Acquired job. *sigh*

Things I Intended to Do This Weekend: (roughly in order of importance)
-Go to work and do work stuff (both days, ugh I hate grad school SFM right now)
-Gather data and put together presentation for Friday lab meeting
-laundry
-dishes
-do some landcomm stuff

Things I Actually Did This Weekend:
-Work
-Put one piece of data on flash drive
-Watched 2 or 3 episodes of ST:DS9
-Read ALL THE CLINT/COULSON and ALL THE STEVE/TONY I could find recced anywhere
-laundry
-dishes
-EAT ALL THE THINGS (seriously, wtf?)
-made a picspam for crimeland
-had idea for Avengers fanmix. Found half necessary songs. iTunes informed me I should be making a "Tony Stark's Favorite Music" fanmix instead. Am still arguing with iTunes.
-stared at Jeremy Renner's arms for a while
-also stared at Clark Gregg in some sexy glasses for a while
-Plotbunnied. Twice. For something I will never be able to write.

So yes, I spent the ENTIRE weekend on the internet (except for the...6 hours I was at work?).

PLOTBUNNIES FREE TO A GOOD HOME:
-Clint/Coulson fic, dragon!Coulson. Inspired by this tumblr post. Bonus points for not-a-damsel-in-distress!Natasha.
-and the AU where the Avengers are a band, and Coulson is their manager or something. Bonus points if Hulk is the drummer and there are Muppets references.

...yeah, I don't understand how my brain works either.

This is something that's honestly been building for a while, I just haven't talked about it on here because, honestly, I didn't want to subject you guys to my misery. But I've been pretty much hating grad school for quite some time now, and the past few weeks have been worse than ever, which gave me the kick in the ass I apparently needed.

I'm officially quitting grad school.

I'll be sticking around until the end of summer, to finish up my project and to give me time to look for a job. But by the end of summer, I'll leave with a Masters degree.

I feel like I should regret this decision, but I don't. At all. The things I want to do with my life are things I don't need a PhD for, and the jobs I could get as a PhD are, for the most part, things I don't actually want to do. So, I'll leave with a Masters and hopefully find a job I actually like, with significantly more reasonable hours than grad school expected of me, and better paying on top of it.

My day

Morning: Watched Chicago River get dyed green. Wandered around for a while, watched part of the parade but couldn't see much and it was hot, so we got ice cream instead. Did not encounter a single green beer along the way, for which I am deeply thankful. (Actually didn't see a whole lot of beery people, period, which surprised me a little. I mean. This is Chicago on St Patrick's Day, after all.)

Afternoon: Star Trek: Voyager. All afternoon. And yes, I'm shipping Tom/Harry even more than I did before. Been a long time since I rewatched this show.

Netflix free trial ♥

ugh.

My house is raining. I am not at peace with this.

Wish the upstairs neighbors would get home so the repair guy can get in and figure out why the hell our ceiling is wet.
uberniftacular: (Random: CLEAN ALL THE THINGS)
Today I have:
-Cleaned ALL THE THINGS (except the kitchen sink, which the Husband did)
-Washed ALL THE LAUNDRY
-Paid ALL THE BILLS
-FINALLY hung up our wedding picture on the wall

Today is Get Stuff Done Day? Or it's been Get Stuff Done Weekend, anyway, based on the amount of landcomm challenges I did yesterday.

So. We haven't actually met any of our neighbors yet. But I really would like to meet the people who live directly upstairs from us. We sometimes can hear sounds from upstairs, and so far I like what I hear XD They laugh a lot, which seems like a good sign.

And I just heard the Criminal Minds theme music. Which would seem to indicate they have good taste in television.

Also, one day walking past the front of the building, I saw a cat sitting in their window. So they appear to be happy, Criminal-Minds-watching cat people, which sounds to me like a recipe for friendship.

Also also, I am a dork.

Uh, so. Our condo decided to flood at 2:30 this morning. AUGH. We probably had 2-3 inches of standing water in our entire condo. Y'know, the one with WOOD FLOORS throughout? (Thank goodness it wasn't carpet, though. We might be able to get away without having to replace the wood, hopefully.)

And, of course, we own...one bucket, 2 mops, and about 6 towels. So, we totally had to bail out the condo with cups and a plastic trash can. And, at one point, a ziploc bag XD

My poor husband was getting ready to go to bed when he found out that we were flooding...so yeah, he just went to bed right when I came home from work this morning (like...20 minutes ago?)

I'm very frustrated that I can't find my hair dryer. Because, while most of our stuff has been unpacked by now, the things that weren't? Were mostly ALL OUR ART, which was in a cardboard box on the floor. This consists of some pictures Bry's great-grandma painted, some paintings by my grandfather, and some photographs I took in a photography class a while ago, all nicely framed and just waiting to be hung up. Thankfully, the pictures themselves look okay, but all the mats are soaked, so I want to dry them out with the hair dryer before they start to mold. Problem: CANNOT FIND HAIR DRYER.

Thank goodness we managed to get our bottom-shelf books up high before they got ruined.

...So much for getting to see Harry Potter this weekend.

Cat!

Okay, so. Apparently my husband and I are ridiculous. Okay, we knew that already, but we've reached new levels of ridiculous just now. I was petting the cat, and she was purring. So I said something about the cat buzzing. And then Bry made some comment about her also being fuzzy.

So now, apparently, we're calling her Fuzzy Buzzy Beastington.

I'm not sure what it is about cats that gives them the ability to reduce normally sane people to babbling about "Fuzzy Buzzy was a cat!" (This is besides the part where we frequently feel the need to inform her, "Cat! You are a cat!")

So, uh. I'm moving tomorrow. o.O All our crap is in boxes right now and there is literally NO SPACE TO MOVE in our tiny apartment because the floor space is all taken up with boxes. We've got 2 giant boxes crammed into the tiny kitchen because there's no place else to stick them.

It's awesome. Can't wait to be moved.

Poor kitty is gonna be so traumatized, though.

In other news, I've been watching old episodes of Craig Ferguson. It's a good thing.
Particularly when I discover things like this. )

Closed on the condo today! It went pretty smoothly, other than the part where the seller showed up 45 minutes late.

But HOLY SHIT WE'RE HOMEOWNERS.

Scheduled internet installation for next Tuesday, and we're moving in the following Monday.

Holy crap.

CHECK-IN!

Anybody on my flist in Alabama, Georgia, or anywhere else getting hit with massive tornadoes tonight, let me know you're safe?

Also hoping my cousin in Falkville, AL is safe. Haven't heard anything from her yet, but since her mother is currently visiting her and her daughter right now, I'm going to assume that they're safe and just haven't thought to call anybody because her mom is right there with her. No activity on her facebook, but I'm guessing she doesn't have power right now.

Be safe, everyone!

Found out today that our loan application cleared.

This means we could potentially close on the condo as early as next Friday.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

My husband's mug of coffee is...buzzing.

Huh.

Whee!

Bry and I went to see Les Mis today, and it was pretty freakin' awesome. LOVED their Eponine.

Also, NONE of the lower-class characters spoke in a Cockney accent, which I thought was pretty impressive, considering the track record. Clearly, the director of this production understands that France =/= England.

Also, never before have I been in a situation where we needed to have traffic directors in the restroom.

Went out for Indian food afterwards. Found a restaurant that's got tasty food at reasonable prices, and isn't too far from home either, so that was nice.

For the record, I had mango kulfi (basically, Indian ice cream) for dessert. And had to cut it with a knife, because every time I tried to get a bite-sized piece with my spoon, I ended up flinging it across the table. Too frozen.

Been a good day.
