Stop being in ALL THE DAMNED SONGS.

In a place where comfort shouldn't be
I found comfort and tranquility.
I've found friends that mean so much to me,
In a place I never thought I'd be.
The cave's never coming down on me.
The cave really, means so much to me.
The cave only gives.
I'm glad the cave is where I live.
Ok, so sometimes things get out of hand.
And peace of mind is in great demand.
I climb up to the top...
Look around and it all seems to stop.

"The Cave" by Mighty Mighty Bosstones. (No music link this time, because apparently this song doesn't exist on the internet?)

Um. This song is about Clint moving into Stark Tower with the rest of the Avengers?

(Ugh. Songs. Stop it. UNLESS YOU ARE A CLINT/COULSON SONG, GO AWAY. I am trying to finish my goddamned fanmix.)
uberniftacular: (Music: RBF onefish)
Trying to make a shippy fanmix that's all ska?

Is fucking HARD. Ska music is like...90% breakup songs, and 10% songs about beer.

(Um. I might have signed up for [livejournal.com profile] avengers_rbb and am making a Clint/Coulson fanmix? This is all [livejournal.com profile] entwashian's fault.)

I have 3522 songs in my itunes. Pick 2 numbers between 1 and 3522 and I'll tell you what songs they are.

Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope, with this heavy load

This song really resonates with me. Kind of listening to it on repeat right now, actually. And it's kind of turning into the closest thing to a religious experience I've had in years, oddly enough. (Well, maybe not so odd, I suppose...this song is essentially a prayer. I'm not sure who to, in my case, but I guess just releasing its energy into the universe is enough for me right now.)

Sheesh. Leave it to me to have something resembling a crisis of faith here on LJ...this is not what I was intending to say when I started writing this post, I'm just stream-of-consciousness writing things. XD

Uh. If anybody wants, feel free to make the comments section of this post an open discussion of religion, as apparently I'm in that sort of mood right now. Just play nice - anybody starts bashing other people's beliefs and I will freeze comment threads as soon as I get to them.

Happy birthday, good sir. You are sorely missed.
uberniftacular: (CM: happy Garcia)
It's Garcia Week over at [livejournal.com profile] crimeland, and for part of that, I've made a Garcia fanmix. (I also made icons, which will go up in my icon journal soonish, but not tonight because I have a few more things I'd like to upload and post there, but they haven't gone up for voting yet, so I can't share them just yet.)

I...just...this. Just THIS.

Lyrics here.

(I may have more words on this later. Right now, head full of thoughts on multiple subjects at once, reading heavy/powerful stuff in a blog. I'm not sure where this is going.)

I went to see Reel Big Fish in concert last night, and it was AWESOME. I don't go to live shows very much, so this was a treat for me anyway, and they're pretty much my favorite band that's still together and touring. (I mean, my absolute favorite band is the Beatles, but, well...yeah.)

Yeah, they opened the concert with "Trendy," which I think is pretty much standard for them? I've only seen them twice, so not really sure.

I wish I could remember the set list, because it was an awesome show. Things
I know they played:
Join the Club (which I totally had to look up, because it's one of the ones where I can sing along with, but don't know the name of unless I look XD )
The Kids Don't Like It/Thank You for Not Moshing
She Has a Girlfriend Now
S.R.
Where Have You Been
Cannibal
Sayonara Senorita
Down in Flames
Slow Down
Ban the Tube Top
Good Thing
The Set Up
Another F.U. Song
Brown Eyed Girl
Why Do All Girls Think They're Fat

And then ended with
Sell Out
Beer
Take On Me

...huh, I think that was, actually, pretty much the whole show, though not necessarily in that order. Bloody hell, it was amazing.

ETA: Huh. This set list from last Friday's show somewhere in California looks pretty much exactly like they set they played in Chicago, except that they played "Join the Club" instead of "I'll Never Be."

Some notes on the band in general: Aaron's sideburns are ridiculous. I'm kind of disappointed that Scott left, but I totally get that he wants to go be a family man now. THEY'VE GOT A SAX PLAYER AGAIN! Which is exciting, and apparently they're calling him Saxl Rose XD I can't recall right now what his real name is, but I gigglesnorted when Aaron introduced him. The Rabbit grew his hair out. So now he's this long-haired glasses-wearing massive-biceped ginger drummer, which is, really, pretty fucking hot. (I apparently have a thing for arm muscles. Zac Hanson, I blame you for this. Damn drummers and their biceps XD )

I have determined that I definitely have no desire to be one of the set people at a music venue. Why, you ask? Because much as I'd like to get up close and personal with the drummer, adjusting part of the drum kit WHILE THE DRUMMER IS BANGING ON CYMBALS SIX INCHES FROM YOUR HEAD does not seem like a fun time.

I actually bought a t-shirt at the show. Which is the first concert tee I've purchased since the Mustard Plug show I was at...god, probably back in 2002-2003ish. But it's an awesome shirt. In the style of One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, but instead of Blue Fish it's Reel Big Fish. (Um. See icon, which I totally made just for this entry.) I'm wearing it today, though I honestly hadn't realized how beery it smelled (the venue was apparently full of beer fumes, who knew?) until I got to work today. So that was kind of icky, but kind of evened out by the fact that I grinned like a crazy person every time I saw my awesome shirt in the mirror. (Also, I totally had to explain it to one of my lab-mates, because apparently Dr Seuss isn't something kids read in Taiwan?)

Streetlight Manifesto, who are co-headlining the tour and played right before RBF, were pretty awesome too, but I didn't know any of their songs. To be honest, the only one of their songs I actually know is "Keasbey Nights", which they didn't play. I think I need to get more of their music, though, because it was pretty damn awesome.
ETA: I lied, they did play one song I know, because apparently they do a cover of "Such Great Heights," which was pretty sweet. I love that song.

Day 23 - A song that you want to play at your wedding

Well, considering I'm already married, I'm going to post songs that *were* played at my wedding.

Modest Mussorgsky: Promenade from Pictures at an Exhibition

The song I walked in to.

Embarrassingly enough, I cannot remember what song we walked out to.

More songs under the cut )

Day 22 - A song that you listen to when you’re sad

Again, with the mood-based music. Hmph. Here's a cheerful song, which I might listen to in order to cheer myself up when sad, if I did that sort of thing.

Monkees - Daydream Believer

Day 21 - A song that you listen to when you’re happy

See yesterday's post re: I don't really match my music to my moods. So, here's a song I like:

AC/DC - Rock 'n' Roll Train

Day 20 - A song that you listen to when you’re angry

I, uh...don't really listen to music when I'm angry? These days, usually I listen to the radio at work, and that's sadly the only music I really listen to, unless I turn on itunes while I'm studying.

So, have an angry-ish sounding song.

Apocalyptica - Enter Sandman (Metallica cover)

Day 19 - A song from your favorite album

Okay, by this point you all should know that I don't really have favorites like that. So, what I'm going to do today is post an album that I really love, and have done since I was a kid.

Granuaile is an album that tells the story of Grace O'Malley, an Irish pirate queen from the time of Elizabeth I. Kind of a personal thing for me, because my family is somehow related to her. Plus, LADY PIRATE!

Granuaile - Shaun Davey and Rita Connolly

Day 18 - A song that you wish you heard on the radio

Reel Big Fish - Turn the Radio Off

There is not nearly enough ska on the radio. And I personally would be highly entertained to hear this particular song on the radio.
